Command Line Cheat-Sheet (Linux)

FILES:

cp <source file> <destination file>                copies source file into destination file

mv <source file> <destination file>            moves source file into destination file (rename)

rm <file>                            deletes the file permanently

touch <filename>                        creates new file

 

DIRECTORIES:

cp -r <source directory> <destination directory>    copies source directory into destination directory

mv  <source directory> <destination directory>        moves source directory into destination directory

rmdir <directory>                        deletes the file directory, if it is empty

mkdir <directoryname>                    creates new directory
