5 Volt Power Regulator Connection to Raspberry Pi

Raspberry Pi requires 5 volt power input to operate.  In order to power it using a portable power source, such as a rechargeable battery or AA battery bank, it is necessary to employ a power regulator to produce desired voltage.  The diagram below shows L4941 5 volt power regulator connection to Raspberry Pi:

The regulator has 3 pins:

1 – Input

2 – Ground

3 – Output

Connections

  • The battery positive terminal connects to the power regulator Pin 1
  • The battery negative terminal connects to the power regulator Pin 2
  • Raspberry Pi positive power input connects to the power regulator Pin 3
  • Raspberry Pi negative terminal connects to the power regulator Pin 2

 

WARNING

The power regulator will get hot.  DO NOT TOUCH WHILE IT IS OPERATING.  It is highly recommended to use a heat sink to help dissipate some of the heat.
